Rachael Weisz introduces the Dave Matthews Band.
Kelly Clarkson performed next. I think this is one of the few chances to see her this year because she canceled her tour.
Rosario Dawson...I loved her in Grindhouse...introduces Kanye West. I took this opportunity to review pictures on my camera and delete the worst of them.
Someone named Robert Kennedy Jr came out and issued a venomous rant. He barely took a breath at times. It was one of the longest liberal tirades I have heard in a long time.
Shakira was seen from the UK...lots of close-ups of her undulating her hips for a rendition of "Hips Don't Lie". I'm not a fan of that song, but I really couldn't complain due to the stunning visuals.
Camaron Diaz came out. She flubbed the name of some website she was talking about. Her little ponytail looked a bit like a "Something About Mary" hairdo.
Camaran introduces Al Gore who introduces Bon Jovi. Things were pretty nuts at times for previous acts, but the place went absolutely nuts when Bon Jovi came out. This was one of the highlights of the show. Total awesomeness!
Alec Baldwin introduced Smashing Pumpkins.
I'm not a big Smashing Pumpkins fan, but this was some interesting stuff. However, I chose this point to leave so that I wouldn't have to fight tons of traffic when the show was over. I thought The Police were probably next. But, they weren't. I forgot that Roger Waters hadn't played yet.
I listened to the rest of the show on XM Radio as I drove away. I regret not seeing the Roger Waters portion of the show. It sounded awesome. The DJs on XM ( who were broadcasting live from the show ) really talked it up and said how how great it was. They were also anxiously awaiting The Police...and wondering who all would show up on stage for the big finale.
The Police sounded OK. Lots of drawn out repetitive lyrics ( even more so than in the original songs )...that may not have seemed so bad for those still watching the show. I couldn't really tell. The final song, Message in a Bottle, was ( in my opinion ) pretty bad. They drew the song out, and Kanye West was rapping at the end. I did not enjoy the way this song was butchered.
As for the big finale, in addition to Kanye joining in for this last song, I heard mention that John Mayer was playing guitar on the last song. I didn't hear about anyone else showing up for any big finale.
Al Gore closed the show with some brief remarks.
Interestingly, the XM DJs didn't talk about The Police after the show was over. They talked about the day in general, and plugged that XM channel 40 would be playing Live Earth tunes on Sunday from all the shows around the world. I found it odd that, after all the build-up they gave to The Police, who were returning to NJ for the first time in 20 years, that they didn't mention them at all at the end of the broadcast.
All I know is that I didn't care that I missed The Police...like I did when I heard the Roger Waters ( Pink Floyd ) songs on the radio broadcast. In the stadium, I'm not sure if the ending flopped or not.
On a side note, the following mints ( Jolt ) definitely work. I think I had mints that were the equivalent of 2 cups of coffee. I was fully awake for the drive home.
The Tshirt I wore was a hit with a bunch of people. Since I am pretty shy about meeting new people, it was nice that the shirt gave an opening for people to talk to me.
On the way out to my vehicle, people were giving away free cans of soda, chips, and some strange tshirts. I guess they were trying to get rid of stuff from some of the stands that were set up outside the stadium, instead of having to cart things back with them.
Although I was awake, I was extremely tired. I was glad that in the morning when I got to the stadium and parked...I picked a spot in the lot that was empty at the time ( although it was filled up later in the afternoon ). I parked right by a light pole and wrote the pole number in my notebook as soon as I parked. I found my car quickly and was on my way without hitting hardly any traffic at all.
End of Line.
