A religious belief… is not a statement about Reality, but a hint, a clue about something that is a mystery, beyond the grasp of human thought. In short, a religious belief is only a finger pointing to the moon ( Read more... )

urrggggggggg......LOLOL
Dearest Emily....i thought i did a good job avoiding this pic and here you are........;-)
probably i have to tell you first: i can't stand pictures with the crucified Jesus on it, especially not in a nature setting, because it reminds me of all those places in Bavaria where they have what is called " Markerl". They are like dogs having to pee at every tree so you wouldn't forget for one moment that Jesus died for YOU. And no, he didn't. I don't need Jesus to die for me, thank you very much. As far as i'm concerned he could have had a long and happy life and celebrate the Divine.
So that's where i'm coming from and therefore my first reaction is: URRRGGGGG.
But then i know you don't mean to say that.
So i try to get beyond my issues with your topic and try to find out what it is you are telling me.
I assume the way you composed the picture means that the tree=nature is the more " natural" way of approaching the Divine. This tree overshadows the cross and the cross looks small in comparison. I also like that it's not straight.....*g*
I assume what you want to express is to put the story of Jesus and the cross in its place and tell us that it's kind of relative and that there is a much bigger and much older picture and representative of the Divine standing right behind this cross. The tree almost embraces the crucified Jesus like a mother.

LOOOOOOOOL Claire, no escape :-))))))
I absolutely understand your attitude about crucifixes, especially in Bavaria. *g*

And thank you VERY MUCH for your interpretation even though. I'm so glad my intention with the comparison nature - human - divine is obvious. And for your last sentence I'd like to hug you tight. "MOTHER", exactly! Let me tell you something. When I was there on the road and I saw this cross in front of the tree my first thought was "ugh, this old tree, doesn't it look like a giant vagina (sorry, if anyone feels hurt by the word)? Like a huge ancestral being that could easily give birth to a son of God? But if this right, who's first? Nature or Divine? Moreover, what if they're equal? The very same???? :-))
