1. Rock Bank on PS2
2. my kitties, they really make me happy
3. DC Day at UB Law- the first day I've ever been remotely happy to be a UB Law student
4. having a job that is super flexible and is letting me telecommute from Alaska this summer
5. having a relatively clean house
OK, so Josh sort of bulletted some of his thoughts over the past few weeks and it seems like a nice alternative to what would otherwise be a really discombobulated post:
- This semester is in complete overdrive for me. I have three papers (of varied lengths and difficulties), a presentation, and a pamphlet of sorts to write. Most of my assignments are due April 25 then I have to prepare for a final exam, so the next 3 weeks are going to be ridiculous. I've written out a plan of attack so I don't have to ask for extensions on anything.
- UB Law dropped from #77 to #100 in the US News Rankings this year. For those of us who hate living in Buffalo this is a real problem. It's only going to be that much more difficult to find work outside of the Buffalo-Niagara region (i.e. the land that God has forgotten and the sun never touches). I'm trying to keep my hopes up and consider alternative means to start a career so I'll have multiple back up plans.
- I've been thinking a lot about my future, especially since my own law school graduation is actually looming (not like yours, Josh, but I still expect next year to fly by). DC Day was a huge success in my book because I started thinking about a judicial clerkship to give me another year to hunt for a more permanent job. Plus it'll get me out of Buffalo and be a good way to sort of hit "reboot" on my resume.
- Planning for Alaska is almost entirely complete. I've worked something out at my current job to do research via telecommute. I'll be working very few hours, but it's the same pay rate and I get to really secure my position with the company. By the time I graduate/attend the New York Program I will have been with the company for 14 months- 1.5 years on a part time basis in a pseudo-professional position. I'm also planning to do some pre-study for the bar by listening to the Gilbert's series throughout the summer. Note: I am completely aware that this makes me a complete dork. On the other hand, I will also spend a great deal of my summer hiking in a temperate rainforest, whale watching, and exploring Native villages....so my summer is still going to kick ass in a big way.
-Leigh wants a new job really badly. Too bad the market sucks, it makes it that much harder to find a job because there just aren't that many out there. I hope she's able to get one that makes her happy and helps her to start building a career. It would be so perfect if after graduation we were both in a position to have jobs that made us happy. I feel like one of both of us have been working "starter jobs" or "temporary/just to pay the bills (sort of) jobs" for so long.
- I put together a Europe trip itinerary for Leigh and I after I sit for the bar. It's going to be a little pricey, but I've been wanting to travel Europe by train for a few years now and I figure there's no time like right after the bar. It looks like we'll be there about 3 weeks, maybe a little longer, and will fly into London followed by a series of short trips via train. I'm already looking forward to it.
- I'll be in Washington State the weekend of April 12 for my step-grandmother's 50th Birthday party. This could either be really fun or really awful, I'm mentally preparing for both scenarios.
That's about it for now. Since I'm at work I should probably actually do some work. Break's over.
