it was the first week of freshman year and amy and i were fruitlessly trying to figure out how to get our freakin' clothes clean. in the midst of our frustration we struck up a conversation with these two cool-seeming guys who were also hanging out in the laundry room (where the cool kids play). about the role of women in the church, as i recall. (oh, wheaton).
a few days later i ended up sitting in front of one of these guys in my very first Wheaton bible class. and thus a friendship was formed.
over the last two years, matthew william hiltibran has been a consistent source of fun and encouragement for me and everyone else he is friends with on campus... which is a ridiculous amount of people. from joining me in perfecting the art of itunes browsing as a means of homework procrastination, to refusing to let me distract him anymore and actually making me work, from
sweet nights out with friends to
amazing adventures and
perfect roadtrips, he manages to add good doses of both complete
insanity and gentle reality checks wherever he goes. he inspires all of his friends, family, and acquaintances with his consistent kindness, genuine interest in others, and passions for justice and compassion, he's one of the most empathetic listeners you could ever hope to meet, and he has way more wisdom than he gives himself credit for.
happy 20th birthday matt! there's no one i'd rather have mocking me with my roommate than you :-)
