Hello. How is everyone at this fine hour?

Actually, that makes it sound as though I haven't been faithfully keeping up with your many and varied exploits in the time since I last updated. Whereas really I've continued to pad around here whilst keeping entirely schtum about my own goings-on, of course. This is unfortunate, as it only leaves room for illusion that my lack of updating is due to the supposed wondrous and monumental events that have passed. It isn't.

Anyhoo, I hope you all had utterly spifftastic Christmasses and New Years. And yes, I should apologise profusely for returning from such a spell of basic laziness with a mere meme, it's terribly attention seeking I know. I promise you that normal, less-erratic-than-this service shall be resumed in the near future, however. Yes, really.

All right then, let's 'ave it:

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

Learnt to knit, learnt a little samba, painted banners, slept in a tent all by myself, feared for my life for reasons involving vodka, maintained an actual functional relationship (dear God, how Bridget Jones am I?!).

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I didn't spend all these years perfecting my flaws for them to be wiped away upon the turning of the year, thank you very much. I shall become a better person when I choose to.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No, although one very close friend got well and truly knocked up. Now the initial horror has faded it's all really rather exciting.

5. What countries did you visit?

Poland.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?

Motivation. An attention span of any description.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

15th July. It's surreal, isn't it, when things turn out exactly as you've been trying your hardest not to hope for.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I managed to get my summer into a fairly productive, adventurous and exciting form at the last minute, if that counts for owt. Otherwise, this year has largely consisted of me being an idiot on a variety of levels.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Well, I would mention the slight balls-up that was the second term of my second year, if it had resulted in my being a failure. Instead, I narrowly managed to inch myself up to dropout status. Go me.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Just the usual few colds here or there.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

A train ticket to Windsor.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Londoners, after 7/7. Everyone who kept the Stirling campsite running as smoothly as possible, under the circumstances, at the G8. Everyone who didn't imply that my decision to retake second year was based upon rashness and stupidity.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

Aside from my own, it would really have to be Bob I'm A Sanctimonious Twat Geldof, wouldn't it?

14. Where did most of your money go?

Train fare to all corners of the country, overspending in Poland, overpriced but irresistible clothing, getting drunk, cooked breakfasts, eating out generally. Though I've learned my lesson now from 3) and 4).

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

G8 protests, Poland, Help She Can't Swim, various other gigs, weekend excursions, moving into our current place with a whole load of brilliant people, meeting Kenny but especially for the second time, meeting various other LJ-ers.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?

The whole of the Go! Team's album will always serve as a reminder of last summer and being ridiculously happy.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner, or so everyone says. It's a little disconcerting.
iii. richer or poorer? Hahaha, poorer, roughly to the sum of £1500.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Asking for help when uni related things were getting out of hand, saving money, writing creatively.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Panicking.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

As ever, it was spent in the usual unremarkably pleasant manner en famille.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?

Yeah.

23. How many one-night stands?

None.

24. What was your favourite TV program?

I don't believe I followed anything regularly at all. I dunno. Nathan Barley?

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I never realised what a total eejit Geldof was until he demonstrated his preference for pampered pop stars over people who actually give a shit. But no, I'm not in the habit of actively hating anyone.

26. What was the best book you read?

Probably Purple Hibiscus.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Arcade Fire, Bis, Gravy Train!!!!, Help She Can't Swim. All showing, as a matter of fact, that my preferences seem to have swung from the female to the dual vocalled.

28. What did you want and get?

An active, adventurous and, in parts, excitingly spontaneous summer.

29. What did you want and not get?

Academic success.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?

Howl's Moving Castle.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I hit 21, and in honour of this occasion tried to end up at a slightly edgier nightspot than the ones I was previously familiar to. Of course, this resulted in us all traipsing around Manchester for an hour and a half in the rain after we'd had to abandon plans to hit said nightspot, and ended in us settling for r'n'b at Baa Bar out of exhaustion. So much for trying somewhere different.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

As before, motivation and a functional attention span.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?

Holly, bless her, recently told me that, "You're so cutting edge, you almost scare me sometimes". This would only be in comparison to West Country style, however, so it isn't actually all that much of a boast. Still, it's nice to know that at least someone appreciates my several shades of twee.

34. What kept you sane?

My friends.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I don't care how much of an embarrassing indie girl cliche it is, Ricky Wilson is pretty. To my surprise, I also found that ginger bloke from Pride and Prejudice rather appealing.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

The myopic media coverage of the G8 protests. The even more myopic coverage of the closure of Newchurch Farm. The aid response to Katrina-which I still haven't entirely made up my mind on.

37. Who did you miss?

Too many of my long distance and not-so-long-distance friends. Kenny.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

See above. I sense a theme.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:

Ignore your play-it-safe friends. Invaluable as they are to drink tea and gossip with, taking their advice too seriously could bar you from amazing things.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Certain individuals on my list would possibly consider Art Brut's invitation of, "Come on, come on, let's 'ave a fight!" as apt in light of certain political events. Hehehe.
