FIC: "Marginal Gains" (Yuri on Ice)
So I have committed Yuri on Ice fic, which is a gift for 
nineveh_uk. As well as a conveniently timed birthday present, it's also a thank you to her for getting me into this amazing show.
Now, you may not believe it, but I'm as much of a sentimental shipper as anyone else in this fandom. However the fact is that the sentimental shipfic has been written already. So, being the lover of moral ambiguity that I am, as well as fascinated by the insane physical demands of pro sport, I decided to write a fic about doping instead.
Victor is, after all, a world-class Russian athlete. Although it's not explicitly mentioned in the show (I think?), he must have been at Sochi, and we are now of course privy to reports on exactly how widespread Russian state-sponsored doping was there. I can't imagine that he - swept up into full-time training at the age of seven, it's implied - wasn't taking something. There is a really interesting interview about figure skating, doping, and the Russian training system
And now there is fic. I was imagining this as a one-shot, but I accidentally 1k on the bus on the way into London this morning. (At 7am. I had intended to sleep.) So there will probably be more. I would welcome your thoughts!
