On why, exactly, Lowe's is a bunch of assholes:
The boycott, then, came from the Florida Family Association, alleging that the show did not accurately depict Muslims. Let me reiterate that. The FFA is so ignorant and closed minded that they actually believe they know better about Muslims than actual Muslims....
So this is one of the many reasons the backlash against AAM is so problematic. The oppressive majority is once again asserting its own definitions of the minority, therefore allowing it to reinforce and strengthen its oppression.
It’s incredibly circular. Stereotypes allow for the oppression of a group. Contradictory information is presented to educate the masses to end it. Information is suppressed. The stereotype remains. Oppression continues. This is why we must stand up against it.
Lowes took the other route, realizing the sad truth that there was more money in pulling the ads because the majority of their demographic is perfectly fine with holding onto their bigoted beliefs rather than accept that they could be wrong. They are actively involved in the oppression of an entire group of people, and Lowes is okay with that.
