JESUS I am sick of people whining because ~omg fandom is talking about race/gender/privilege and it's harshing my squee!~
It's nice that you can read through a story without noticing the fail. The people who are the targets of the fail don't have that luxury, and they have as much right to be able to turn their brains off and enjoy a story as you do - only sometimes they can't, because it's racist or ableist or what-have-you. If you're perfectly OK with racism/sexism/what-have-you interfering with someone else's squee, but think that talking about those *isms is a huge fucking imposition on your squee and people should stop? You need to take a step back and consider why you think your right to enjoy a story is more important that the right of a person from a minority group to do so. Could it be that "privilege" word you're so sick of hearing?
