A very scary reality...

...I thought this was a great article (regardless of which side of the fence you're on) from the Wall Street Journal summarizing exactly what Obama is likely to implement should he be elected. It's great because it cuts through the campaign rhetoric to the core of what he would be able to push through, which I find helpful and personally ( Read more... )

Noa
I didn't say that it wasn't biased, but that at least it was a straight forward account of what he stands for. I say that because I totally agree with you when it comes to NCLB - 100%. It was an absolute disaster aimed at trying to raise up the bottom 25% (which have no business being raised up and potentially should not be if you believe in the idea of a average) at the expense of the middle, but mostly the top 25%. My mom, my MIL, two of my aunts...all teachers and they have all complained bitterly about it - and I totally agree with all of you. I completely believe in the need for a revamped education system based on capitalist theory, which is why I think charter schools are such an important part of a strong, educational future for this country, which IMO is one of the top issues in this election.

However, keeping NCLB in mind, is what I find so scary. In essence, most of Obama's policies (especially with regards to wealth redistribution and healthcare) are very similar to NCLB b/c they are all about raising up the bottom 25% of our country at the expense of the top 50% (who generate so many new businesses- and therefore jobs - and already share an unfair burden of our "welfare" we provide. We are going to see a very high unemployment rate, as a result of the policies he's proposing because the small business owners (who, I believe are responsible for something like 60-70% of the jobs in the US) are simply going to decide to run more "efficiently" if they are taxed more, which means laying off Americans, which only adds to the people supported by his proposed welfare state, which results in what we call an economic death spiral.

Thanks for your comment and your views - believe it or not, we're actually on the same page with regards to some of the fundamentals :)
