Since I have had to work at home this week I have had plenty of time to read through Forest Mage, the second part of The Soldier Son-trilogy

Have you read anything else by Robin Hobb? I discovered her books back in the 90's when her first novel was translated into Swedish. Then I have read all of her works published under the name of Robin Hobb.
Come to think of it, what really irritates me is that Nevare does not change and that's quite a negative surprise for me. You see, Hobb used to let her characters change throughout her books. The most obvious example is Malta in Liveship traders who goes from being a spoiled child to a very independent woman and the best bit is that as a reader you buy the transformation (this is also why Epiny frustrates me. She feels likea copy of Malta, only less well written).
Amzil feels like she has been wasted. I think Nevare needs someone like her who can take care of herself and perhaps force Nevare to accept some responsibility.
I completely agree with you on the need for another POV. In Liveship traders I recall at least three different narrators and that helped a lot.
Feel free to rant as much as you like :). I think I will need to vent my frustrations as I continue to read the rest of the series.
