Merry Christmas

Dec 24, 2012 23:18

It's an hour away from Christmas on the west coast. We went to Sizzler for Christmas Eve dinner. This is a tradition we started the year my dad died. He died 6 weeks before Christmas in 2009. Hard to believe he's been gone so long.

Tomorrow we will have my mom and aunt over to open gifts and have dinner. Before that we will go to the cemetary. There are no children left in the immediate family, so opening gifts first thing in the morning isn't necessary. I prefer waiting actually...it's so completely different from what we did with my dad. My dad never slept in except on Christmas Day. And we couldn't open anything until he woke up. When I was a child my mom would let me play with my gifts from Santa and look at the stuff in my stocking. As a married adults with my own home, we still went over to my parents on Christmas morning to open gifts. I'd go in my pajamas and then go back home to take a shower before Christmas dinner.

Another tradition was going to look at the lights at the Mission Inn in Riverside. We haven't done this since my dad dies, but are planning on doing it sometime before the 1st this year.

This year it just seems like there has been so much evil and sadness in the world. That paired with losing my dad 3 years ago, it's been hard to stay positive. I'm focusing on God and Jesus and the real reason we celebrate Christmas every year. With that I'm sharing the first part of the Bible I learned:

"8: And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9: And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10: And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12: And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13: And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. "

Luke 2:8-14 KJV

Merry Christmas and Blessings upon you!
