I had my first exam this morning... it wasn't as bad as I'd thought it would be. I studied halfheartedly all weekend and last night for about five solid hours. At least I didn't set off the alarm in the library this time. I made these notecards with crazy pictures on them, and that helped some. The other day, my advisor Dr. Ribble and I were desperately trying to remember the author of the poem that is quoted in the funeral scene of "Four Weddings and a Funeral". She called me on my cell phone friday night to tell me, and here it is!

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West.
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

- W. H. Auden

Now how great is that?!?! Who hasn't hated the stars or the sun for their mere existence at some point? I love that. Ironically, I'm actually in a really good mood right now, I only have one more really tough exam and I have a day and a half to study, so that's good. There is a Christmas party tonight and tomorrow night as well... yay for parties!
