DISNEY COLLEGE PROGRAM!

Aug 01, 2006 22:43

My journey so far:

Today I had a meeting with the study abroad advisor about having the disney college program approved for the Spring of 2007. She said everything appears to be in order to have the program approved. I just have to do it through interdisciplinary instead of engineering. Towards the end of the meeting I mentioned that the college recruiter for Disney from a neighboring college mentioned that there would possibly be a presentation at UCONN. She said she didn't know anything about that, but to ask Career Services. So down to Career Services I go.

I walk in and luckily they were doing walk-in appointments. So I sit down with one of the career services advisors and she says that they discontinued the Disney college program about 6 years back because Disney couldn't guarantee full time hours and was not specific to the major. I explain that the college program is perfectly relevant to my major since I want to go into ride design and that they now have a seminar series that is just that. She said that I have a stronger case than most and that I need to find out how many hours I will have, if the professional development studies is free or not, and what duties I will have if I am accepted into the program.

What I have found out:

+ I will get 30 hours guaranteed with most likely 40-45 hours a week. (I need a minimum of 35 hours for Career services advisor)
+ It entirely depends on what I am assigned within the Disney College Program, but if I am assigned operations I will be operating rides, light cleaning, and taking care of guests.
+ Since the Professional Development is free it can be considered part of job making it major specific.

Much Love,

Emily

PS: I just thought - If the professional development is considered part of the job then maybe I can calculate the hours spent there into my minimum hours...?
