The move in

I drove down to California with my parents over three days, kinda wimpy but it was a good thing because my back really started to hurt after awhile behind the wheel. We arrived in the Pomona CA area on Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday were essentially spent moving me into my apartment and getting me things that I needed. (Here follows a rather boring account of what I did on Monday...) On Monday we first went to my apartment building (The Helix) and checked me in and unloaded the two cars. We also put together the bed frame that we brought with us. Then we went to Costco for a mattress, and then back to the Helix to drop off the mattress which didn't really fit in the car that well. Then to Ikea for lunch and to buy a desk, bookcase, and rug. Afterward we went to Marutas, an Asian grocery store, to buy a few food things and to get dinner to go to eat later, I got Portuguese Sausage Fried Rice, which was pretty yummy. Then we went to Costco again to look a folding tables as an alternative to the desk I bought at Ikea but I decided to stay with the Ikea desk. Then we went to Target to buy plastic drawers and a tv stand. Finally we headed back to the Helix with our spoils. Then it just took probably three hours to put together the furniture and the desk took a large portion of it since there were so many pieces and Ikea directions and boards don't really tell you what piece corresponds to the one in the instruction booklet. After that my parents went back to the hotel and I stay in my new apartment and did more unpacking and watched "Emma" and "Persuasion" while I did.

On Tuesday, did more unpacking since my bookshelf wasn't fully assembled until today. Finally my room was pretty much organized except for odds and ends like some school supplies and a cord to connect my tv to the cable outlet. So we went to Staples and a $0.99 store. For lunch we went to Aladdins, which was Mediterranean food (according to their sign) and I had a lamb gyro. Then we just went back to do more unpacking and to kind of chill. We were all kind of dragging after all that travel and moving.

The link below is to pictures of the inside of my apartment, I'll try to take some pictures of school and outside stuff over the next couples days.

Orientation starts tomorrow from 8am-5ish, which should be rather exciting. Probably lots of boring talks and presentations, but I get to see my new classmates for the first time.
