Summary: Jin is Kame’s next door neighbor. He has been in love with him for several years but has never gathered the courage to approach him; instead, he merely has small conversations with him. One day Kame comments that his tortoise KK is not growing at all. Jin concocts a devious little plan to help the tortoise grow larger and win the turtle’s heart.

“Otsukare-sama deshita, Kamenashi-sensei.”
Kame smiled, replied the same to the nurse and left the hospital. An up and coming researcher at one of the leading hospitals, Kame had everything he could want for. He was young, good looking and had a good, well paying job. And he had his beloved waiting for him back home.
Getting home to his apartment, Kame stepped out to the balcony. He peered into the tank for a moment; then stared rather blankly at his beloved. He then lifted him out of the tank to inspect it even more closely. This was miserable and one of the only things in his life he was not satisfied with.
“KK-chan. You’re honestly not growing are you?”
He had that silly, precious little tortoise since he first moved into the apartment complex three years ago and it hadn’t seemed to have grown ONE BIT. He’d even weighed it to make sure that he wasn’t imagining it. And yes, Doctor Kamenashi had made the right prognosis; his tortoise had not grown at all in the span of three years.
How could that even happen, for goodness sake. KK was a living thing. Living things breathe, eat, drink, grow and die. Even the little kids that visited the hospital on learning trips knew that. There were such things as life cycles!
He traced the pattern on the tortoise’s shell. It was a very adorable and pretty tortoise really; if only it would grow bigger.
A song from High School Musical 3, a show that he was quite unwillingly dragged to watch by his niece, suddenly rang in his mind.
“Don’t you see that bigger is better and better is bigger, a little bit is never enough!”
Yes. KK, you shall grow larger!
“Good evening, Kamenashi-san.”
“Akanishi-san! Good evening!”
His neighbor’s voice roused him from his daydream of KK being as large as the turtles in the zoo. He turned slightly to see his neighbor smiling at him. Suddenly, maybe it was fate, destiny, kismet or something else but Kame suddenly held out KK in front of him with two hands.
“Don’t you think KK hasn’t grown one bit since I’ve moved here?”
Akanishi Jin was properly stunned for a moment.
His pretty brow quirked upward a bit; revealing his surprise.
Is he alright?
Then again, it was apparently alright enough for Jin. At least he’d get to speak more to the usually calm and detached doctor. Maybe, through the tortoise, thought the composer, they’d have proper conversations.
It was a weird logic; but weren’t musicians all for creative thoughts?
Blinking twice, Jin took the tortoise from Kazuya. He looked intently at the tortoise for a moment.
Actually, the poor creature really seemed to be as small as the first day he set his eyes on it. That’s pathetic. If I had an owner like Kamenashi who loved me so much, I’d do anything he wanted me to. I’d even roll over and play dead if he wanted me to. Or play fetch or something.
Jin tutted at the tortoise inwardly then cleared his throat to speak,
“Yes, Kamenashi-san. I think your pet hasn’t actually grown since the time you’ve been here.”
A small, resigned sigh came from Kame. The handsome human; not the adorable tortoise.
“I really want KK to grow bigger. I’d be so happy if he could!”
At that moment, the only thought in Jin’s mind was, I’ll make your precious tortoise grow bigger if that’s what it takes to know you better.
And a plan started forming in his mind.
“I know how I can make KK grow bigger, Kamenashi-san.”
“Eh. Really!?”
“I’ll tell you how tomorrow.”
Jin darted into the house, leaving a surprised Kazuya outside with KK.
