So... Spanking kids apparently lowers IQs
http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090925/sc_livescience/childrenwhogetspankedhaveloweriqs ... Would the world rather me yell at my son to get him to stop doing shit he shouldn't do? Would they rather me just tie him to his high chair and let him scream all day and watch movies and therefore lower his activity levels?
I'm sorry, this just makes no sense to me. We're breeding spoiled brats, allowing them to do whatever they want, allowing them to be mediocre. And then, there's those few kids that are exceptional that are kicking ass against the kids that want to be mediocre and people are saying "oh that's so horrible that they won 100 to 0." WTF? Seriously? You're enabling your kid to be mediocre. You're enabling them to do whatever they want without consequences.
And then there's the fact that there's people that weigh over 400 lbs (yes I watch the biggest loser, this season has actually already made me cry) and they don't realize that their parents enabled them to be that way. And it's horrible. I know I'm not helping my kid be healthy, but I try to make sure we don't have lots of sugary fattening stuff in the apt. Yes, I make crepes and pancakes and waffles... when I have the stuff for it. But we live off water, milk, juice, eggs, cheese... cereals from WIC... And honestly, I'd rather stick to eating stuff like that (especially since we're supposed to be getting fruit and veggie vouchers soon yayyyyy!)
But all that aside... that article irked me. I don't know how else to explain it, but it's just ridiculous that people are saying spankings are bad. It builds character, helps you learn right from wrong better than yelling can. But SERIOUSLY? What else can you do to make sure your kid doesn't do wrong? Let them do something stupid like stick a fork in an electrical socket and let them learn and possibly die? fuck that.
