002 - One Hit Wonder Day
I discovered several minutes ago that today is One Hit Wonder Day, which made me think of something..
I have my favourite bands, of whom I have a lot of songs and I really like all of them, but I also have a large amount of artists in my iTunes with just one song, why? For most of them it's just the simple fact that I just picked up on that song and was never interested enough to research the artist more, or I wasn't into the other music the artist made. Although there are some exceptions from this. I have some artists of whom I have one song where I just love the song too much to risk listening to other music the artist makes.
It sounds pretty odd.. Let me try to explain. If all you know is the song, and you know nothing about the artist or the other music they make, you can interpret the song any way you like and it's more about the song than the artist. I've 'ruined' a couple of these sort of songs for myself by trying to check out other music of the same artist.. It suddenly caused the artist to take up more space than the song and now the artist suddenly had a 'style' and belonged to a 'genre' and the song was part of a whole list of songs done by that artist.
