fandom, where art thou?

I've been neglecting LJ since school started back :( Not that I've been DOING as much studying/research as I probably should be by now...but I've just not been in a mood for fandom lately (urgh not its fault but ASN you hurt me. That was harsh :/)

Anyone else notice things are slowly quieting down in the Avatar fandom? It's a shame, but nevertheless unsurprising...I'm guessing things will pick up again around the time the first live-action movie comes out, though. WHICH I REALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR SO PLEASE HURRY UP CASTING RESULTS!

So Avatar is still like the love of my current fandom life but since things there have been quiet in the meantime I've been getting into the Doctor Who fandom. I've seen every episode now but they've stopped showing it on BBC Three, which upsets me greatly.  WHERE'S MY TV-DOCTOR WHO GONE?? :( If this had been a week ago I'd most likely be gushing about the Doctor and Rose and Donna and how much I want a  TARDIS (like SO BADLY), but my obsession has kind of receded lately. It's still MADE OF AWESOMESAUCETM but  think I'll give it a rest for a while...(I know. I go through phases - it makes re-discovering old fandoms fun ^_^)

SPEAKING OF OLD  FANDOMS....NEW FMA ANIME - JSAKLJKDA. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE ARE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT THIS BUT I SAY HELL YEAH! WHY NOT? AND THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO LIKES THE MANGA WAY MORE. Even if it split storylines from the manga, the FMA anime was still awesome and it made FMA all the more amazing for me because I could watch and appreciate both versions, which had very different tones, separately. In any case, if you really don't enjoy the anime and where it went last time, who says you have to adhere to it as canon? (But I hear this one will follow the manga que MORE AJHKAJFK.)

Uh, in terms of school...basically I liked last year better. It was just more fun. The free time I get now is a plus (I get Tuesday afternoons off as well as fisrt period Thursday, which I will of course use wisely by doing something like swimming and SLEEPING, respectively.) But in comparison to last year, where I was sure I'd made the right choices subject-wise, I'm pretty unsure about what I'm studying this year. Maybe it's because it's my last year and subsequently my last chance to kind of...make sure I enjoy what I'm doing in school so that it's my last impression, but... the only classes I really enjoy this year are Advanced English - because of the challenge it presents and because I'm basically a big English geek - Modern Studies, and History (which I coudn't bear to drop even though I passed and am sitting the same level. I think I'm obsessed with the subject. Serisouly. I love it) Actually, it's not all that bad. Looking at it properly, I suppose I can turn that statement round and it sounds a whole lot better...the only subject I don't enjoy is Drama. I choose it a bit randomly because I needed another subject and I was good at it before I dropped and it and it sounded like a light-hearted, fun subject. Only I didn't realise how much Higher's more about directing and the technical aspects of Drama and reading and analysing scripts, and not much about acting and laughing at each other. And I don't like the teacher either. Boo.

But! On a good note I've FINALLY chosen the books I'm going to write my dissertations on for Advanced English - Flowers for Algernon, which I'm reading just now, and Of Mice and Men (and apparently we've to choose a third book but I really don't know about that? Last I heard from the teacher you could study two, as long as there was enough material in the books to cover three thousand words O.o) For some strange reason I've never read Of Mice and Men, which is surprising...being that it's like one of the most recognised books in modern classics, but yeah. I think I'm going to study how the mentally disabled characters in both (all three?) books relate to society, or other characters, or they themselves. In any case, that's the thread I've chosen to link my books.

CAN I JUST MAKE A POINT HERE ABOUT HOW AWESOME 'FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON' BY DANIEL KEYES IS? SERIOUSLY. IT'S AMAZINGLY INTERESTING, AND SAD, AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING AND...STUFF! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, READ IT. REEEAD IT, I TELL YOU. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

dissertation, fandom, real life, flowers for algernon, oh hai thar lj, school, fma
