Stupid Parking

Everybody knows that there is not enough parking on Pepperdine's campus.

Therefore... any commuter student who comes onto campus knows that they need to get here early so that they can find parking. If they have to park in the Fieldhouse parking lot then that is what they have to do. Everbody KNOWS THIS!!!

You may be wondering why I care... I have no car... therefore I could care less about parking...right?

Well today as I was sitting in the Public Safety front office an angry parent called to complain about the parking situation on campus.

He said "My daughter keeps getting parking tickets. We don't want her to park on the street. There is not enough parking. We are good people. I do not understand why parking tickets cost so much. Why does it cost $75 when she parked in the red? I want to talk to your supervisor. Why has she not contacted me after I called her twice? We are good people. We have given so much time and money to the school. I have never owed anyone money in my life...." Repeat. About 4 times. My adrenaline is pumping because I hate it when people just rant and will not listen to reason.

Here is what I wish I could have said to him:
Why are YOU paying your DAUGHTERS parking tickets? She knows where she can park, and she knows the parking situation. No one wants to hear it... but there is plenty of parking up at Drescher. This is the curse of living off campus and having to drive every day.
You being "good people" does not really matter if your daughter breaks the law by parking illegally...especially in red zones...which is where you get a $75 ticket. My supervisor probably has not called you back because she is a very busy person. (He mentioned something about him working from 4:30am till 8pm every day.) I am sorry that you do not get to spend enough time with your family and therefore do not realise that you have spoiled your daughter rotten. Reality check: If the LA Sheriff were in charge of ticketing on campus then tickets would be at least three times as expensive, but no one would complain because they are real police enforcement.

End of rant.

I can not wait to get away from working for Public Safety and from all of the snobs that go to this school who believe that they have the right to park where they want just because.

PS- I am sorry if you ever received a parking ticket from Public Safety that you did not deserve... the thing is... most of the time people do deserve them.
