Still Alive

It's been weird - lately I haven't felt the need to write anything.  I haven't written in my paper journal either much.  I get a little worried about these phases of no writing.  I have a horrible memory and I use photography and writing to remember things, so not writing and taking photos can give me gaps in my memories.

I had a great Easter.  I drove to my Dad's and back.  He lives on the Vallejo/Benecia border and so I put 150miles on the car in one day.  My Dad made vegetarian food special for me this time and it was great.  Everyone else had ham so they had no reason to complain, but my siblings didn't like the tomato dish so much.  My Stepmom is allergic to pork and I won't eat pork, so she and I loved the dishes.  My Dad also made bunny desserts out of pear slices with raisins for the eyes and peanuts for the ears and whipped cream for the tails.  Once my sister gets her photos up, I will share.  They were really cute!  My Dad rocks!

My Mom called me just as I had parked my car at my Dad's house.  I hadn't gotten the email the previous evening (I was at SNW and didn't get home til 3:15am, then turned around and went to my Dad's the next day) about my little sister.  Her plan was to come to SF for her 21st birthday in June and then go into boot camp for the navy in August, but apparently her recruiter called her and they had an opening for the job she wants to do and so she accepted an earlier offer to start.  She got shipped off to IL today to start her 2 months in boot camp, then she's off to FL for her job training.  She plans to save her vacation days for December and come home for Christmas, which works for me since I plan to drive to OR (rent a car with 4WD and take the rats with me) to see my Mom over the company's Holiday Shutdown in December for about a week.  Sad that she'll miss her birthday, but she chose the opportunity.  She was balling in tears on the phone and I tried to cheer her up.  She promised to write when she had an address and I promised to write her back.  I hope she does ok.  It is a big change and she has been quite spoiled in life (more so than my sister and I).  She quite a softy and I don't know how she'll handle the hardassness fo boot camp.

Reminds me of when Brian when into boot camp for the Air Force and got medically discharged for a condition that was not discovered in his initial physical beforehand.  I still have all the letters he wrote to me.  It honestly never sounded like anything I would ever want to put myself through.  I admire the people who can get through it.

I am getting my hair cut this coming Saturday.  I will have to post a photo once it is done.  Since my hair appt is in Livermore, I am meeting up with my sister in Mountain House after my hair appt and spending the night over there.  Mykael is supposed to come over too and we're going to have a girlie slumber party.  I am really looking forward to it.

Whitney bought me a 3-gallon fish tank for my birthday and I set it up with neon tetras in it on Friday.  Then it looks like the fish came with ich, so now I am treating the tank.  2 of the fish died Saturday night and I was scooping out dead fish from the tank at 3:15 in the morning after SNW.  Good times.

I am gearing up to start sewing now that EM has finally finished the livingroom (all the downstairs unpacking is done and even the pictures are hung but we still have to finish the guest room and she has to finish her bedroom).  I am going to head to JoAnn's and buy a lot of cotton muslin with one of the GCs I got for my birthday and start trying to figure out the dress patterns I have so I can make my Dickens dress for this year.  I found some beautiful cottons at Eddy's in Sunnyvale that would make beautiful bloomers, but we'll see if I can afford it ($13.50/yd and I don't have a GC for that store).

Ok - off to check my PO Box while I still have some lunch time left at work.
