Just got a call from the clinic with my MRI results. There are TWO FRACTURES in my left foot/ankle - a fracture of the bone that creates the ankle bump on the outside of your foot and the bone that makes up your heel, plus bone marrow bruising of another ankle bone. NO WONDER my left ankle wasn't feeling like it was healing as well as my right one. Mom figures that they weren't visible on the x-rays because there was still so much bleeding and swelling that it would have obscured the breaks (the area gets kind of fuzzy).
At least there are only a couple of partial-thickness ligament tears on my right foot which are probably already half-healed since I'm already two weeks post-injury. Speaking of which, this means that I've been walking around on a broken foot for two whole fucking without anyone knowing and nothing more supportive than an ace-wrap.
I'm seriously glad I pushed so hard for the MRI in the first place, because otherwise, I'd have never known that there were any fractures at all until it just wouldn't have been healing for weeks and weeks.
Naturally, the nurse practitioner referred me to the hospital ER for treatment. HELL NO. All they're going to do is look at the MRI and stick me in either a cast (which I'd rather not) or in a walking boot, which I have. The only extra info I'd get is how long I'd need to stay in it, but I'm not willing to wait HOURS AND HOURS for "oh, about a month." I see Dr. Hall at the end of the month. I'll have him order a CT or at least another x-ray series then.
I'm trying to look on the bright side. Since it's my left foot, I'll be able to start driving myself around again sooner than later. That alone will be FANTASTIC. I haven't seen Monica in person in a whole month now. We at least got to talk for about 30 minutes while she was driving home from work earlier (because I had to cancel, they shoved a new patient in my spot which meant she couldn't call me during my appointment time).
