The Superb Owl

I made a decision last night: since I couldn't care less about the Giants or Patriots (though I kinda wanted the Giants to win, since they were the underdogs), I'd watch Downton Abbey and just catch the footage of halftime and the ads online this morning. Which was probably a good idea.

First, Madonna. Wow. THIS is how a halftime show should be, IMO. How anyone is going to top this next year, I have no idea.

Granted, there were a few minor issues, like her almost falling during Music, M.I.A. flipping off the camera and saying "shit" and NBC's delayed censoring (which, NBC should have expected to need, considering this was M.I.A.), and the sometimes off lip-syncing. However, besides those few minor glitches, it was AMAZING. Like, I could have totally watched another 15 minutes of it. And Madonna. Seriously, a (somehow incredibly unaged) 53-year-old dancing her ass off in 5" heels is nothing to sneeze at. I've heard that the headdress she wore for Vogue weighed something like 20 lbs. That she could still vogue like her backup dancers is impressive. And the costume changes were smooth and excellent. The stage was fantastic all by itself, and the giant float she entered on, and the huge drum corps and choir also rocked.

Ads. I already had seen the VW ad of the dogs barking the Imperial Theme from Star Wars, but I hadn't seen the sequel: "The Dog Strikes Back."

It's cute but the last ten seconds are the best part.

And, then, of course, there was the Matthew Broderick Ferris Bueller-inspired car ad:

Very very cute. One of my favorites for sure.

A couple of others that I thought were just super funny:

The dragonfly with the crash helmet at the end is HILARIOUS. This is the commercial I laughed the hardest at, honestly.

So, yeah. I'm glad the Giants won, I'm glad I didn't watch the game itself, and I'm glad there were some decent commercials this year. And I'm glad there was the gigantic awesome spectacle of MADONNA.
