Ick

I am seriously tired of going to the clinic on Friday to feel better (in therapy), only to catch a disease and feel WORSE by Monday. I got some kind of upper respiratory thing - whether an infection or a virus is yet to be seen. I had no idea I had so much phlegm in my head. I've spent the last three days snorking and hocking up grossness. I'm now starting to get the full-on achy feeling. No fever yet, but I tend not to run one when I am viral. (I've had to convince so many doctors that I was sick when they'd take my temp, expecting it to be over 100, and it'd read 97.6.) The lymph nodes under my jaw are super-swollen and my throat is raw. So thrilled.

On top of that, the weather is causing what is basically a migraine. The heat, which isn't being dispersed well enough by the a/c and the fan set on decapitate, is causing the blood vessels in my brain to swell, giving me a headache. I can't remember the last time I had a headache like this. I love that.

Speaking of the weather, I HATE IT. According to my favorite Houston meteorologist, this year is now the driest on record, with only 10.48" for the year so far. That's horrible. It's also the hottest on record, with an average temp over the entire year of 72.2°. That includes the winter lows in the 20s/30s. Horrendous. I had a dream that it rained last night, and I went out and danced in it. Our grass in the front yard is mostly dead, and there is no grass at all in the back yard. Once it gets a little cooler, I'm going to convince Mom to invest in a little grass seed so it won't look so bad. But it's useless to try and do that now, because the seed would just burn and not take root.  We've had almost 2 weeks of 100°+ weather. We've had a heat advisory, which means that the heat index in the shade is over 105°, for the last week or so. It's so icky out there. Mom says that she's had several patients that have requested transfers to other treatment facilities in other parts of the country because it's just too hot for them here. And one patient is being really annoying and stupid - she goes out and sits in the heat for 20 minutes to smoke, then comes inside and complains about feeling feverish, and then goes back out and spends another 20 minutes at the next smoke break an hour later. Mom can't seem to get the woman to understand that sitting in 110° temps while smoking (which already raises body temp) is telling her body that she does have a fever. The only way to feel better is to not go out. But the woman refuses to follow that advice. I never have understood smokers who are willing to be outside in horrendous weather just to get their nicotine fix.
Because there's no way I'm going out in this weather, I've spent the last two weeks watching full seasons of shows i've never seen on Hulu. I just finished all of In Plain Sight. I really like it. I was able to catch up to where I could watch the season finale when it showed on USA last night. Now I'm working on Battlestar Galactica, because I feel like watching more episodes at a time than the two-per-week being shown on BBCA.

My poor sister. She had a job lined up for this fall taking care of a 4-month-old for 10 hours a day for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. She was going to start tomorrow. Yesterday, she got a call from the mom saying that she had decided to stay at home instead and Sorry! but there was no more job. This threw Sis for a loop, since she had literally rearranged her life to work around the schedule. She had to move her therapy appointment from Thursday afternoon to Monday. She decided not to go to school this fall because there'd be no time to do so. Now she doesn't know what to do with herself. Her recent facebook post: "Got anything left in that box, Pandora?"

I'm really hoping that Rick Perry decides to run for President. This will mean that we will get rid of him as governor, which is something I've wanted since Bush decided to run twelve years ago. The lieutenant governor isn't that much better, but I'm so tired of Governor Good Hair. I'm also tired of one of my godsister's super-right wing Facebook posts. There are times where I just want to reply, "Really? I know you're an educated woman, WHY do you think he's so awesome?? I want facts that aren't spun through Fox News, please." I mean, how is it a good thing to NOT tax those who can afford it? There is NO evidence that they are "job creators" as the Right keeps saying. Mom got a raise of 2% a few months ago. This bumped her up into the next tax bracket. Because of her raise, she's actually taking home LESS money each month by about $200 because she's being taxed more by the government. How is that fair? Okay, I'm done with my political rant for today.
