Random thoughts

First, I am SO GLAD we got a little rain yesterday! All of the good storms missed our house - they always seem to split to the north/south or east/west of us! But we did see lightning, hear some thunder (which I first thought was just more airplanes coming into Houston Intercontinental Airport), and see a little bit of rain. The smell of rain... Ahhhhh. So lovely. I'd forgotten how wonderful and soothing that smell is. There are more thunderstorms in the area today, and I'm hoping and praying that more will come our house's direction. All of our plants are dying. (Then again, we could water them, but we're never out at the right times of day to do so.)

Second, I sold my car on Saturday. It's a '99 Mercury Cougar. Only 76,000 miles on it, for an 11-year-old car. It was totally screwed up, however. I didn't know when I bought it that Cougars from that year are the most twitchy, pain in the ass vehicles. One time, I had JUST had it tuned up at the dealership. After driving off the lot, I had only gotten a 1/4 mile down the road before the coolant light came on. I called the service people back, and she literally told me, "It's fine, just add a little water to it to bring the level up a little more." WHAT? The rear washer fluid sprayer stopped working. Little stupid stuff like that. I had my driver's-side mirror hit and broken off several years ago. Dad, of course, wouldn't pay to fix it, so I ended up using an assload of glues of different sorts and tons of duct tape trying to keep it on. Finally, the brakes wore down. After sitting in our driveway for three years - after the Ankle Shenanigans of 2008, when I broke both ankles at the same time the day we finished moving into the house, which kept me from driving it - the fuel pump died and the battery died, too.

This guy left a note on my car last weekend that said: "I was wondering if you would like to sale your car. Call Robert 281-555-5555." Mom and I were like, "We need to sale our car to this guy." After haggling, we decided to give it away for $600, since so much was wrong with it. The guy and his wife were really nice. She was sweet, and he was amazingly gifted with the car. However, it became apparent that he couldn't read or write well, since he had to have his wife fill out all the paperwork. Either way, we have $600 we didn't have on Friday. I'm spending a little on books and music, but the rest is going to buy medications for us and the kitties (they need flea treatments) and bills.

Third, AT&T UVerse just updated! I now have the ability to pause live tv from my set in my room. This is a new (AWESOME) feature, since before, we could only pause live tv on the DVR box in the living room. I'm so excited, since this makes it easier to be interrupted by Sis and phone calls without missing anything. YAY! Now if only they could finally get those random episodes of my Showtime shows to become available on demand....

Finally, Rep. Weiner DID ACTUALLY tweet that photo of his weiner. WOW. While I figured that he had actually made the tweet, I NEVER really expected him to take responsibility for it. Now to see what Jon Stewart does with this, since he's good friends with Weiner in real life (literally, since college).

ETA: Weiner has been talking now for almost 30 minutes. He seriously needs to walk away from the mic, since every single word is just digging him a deeper hole.
