1) While watching an A&E Biography show on Robert E. Lee, I learned that I'm also related to George and Martha Washington through Mary Custis Lee (Robert's wife - I'm related to him by both my maternal grandfather's and my maternal grandmother's family lines [and no, that doesn't mean anything incestuous happened]). Also? He was called "Bobby" when he was a kid.
2) Dr. Michael DeBakey, world famous heart surgeon who developed the heart bypass procedure - among other things - died tonight at Methodist Hospital here in Houston, where the Cardiac Center is named for him. I did a book report about him when I was in 5th grade. He was a great medical pioneer, and it's a shame that we have to lose amazing people like him. Though, he did die at 99, partially due to a lifesaving aorta repair - another procedure he invented. See the
