Okay. So it seems I dropped off the face of the planet for a while there. I do have reasons for my absence: a visit from Heather at Thanksgiving, a virus/infection at Thanksgiving, work, bronchitis that ended up sending me to the doctor twice and the ER once, work, a visit from Heather and her kitty over Christmas that lasted for almost a month, work, and now, a probable torn-up knee.
That's right. The only reason I have time to write now is that I'm currently disabled. The basic story is that I was sitting on the floor (I can't squat because of previous damage I've done to my knees) and tried to get up, but didn't get my center of gravity right, and did that stumble-stumble-stumble-THUNK thing. Landed with all of my body weight (which, unfortunately, at the moment is considerable) on my left knee. It swelled up; turned purple. I figured I had just sprained it. Finally, I had Mom, RN take a look at it. She, being brilliant and also a sufferer of knee damage, realized that I might have partially torn my patellar tendon - the one that runs from my kneecap to my shin - and the cartilage underneath. Great. So I saw the orthopedist the other day. During the giant ice storm. It was fun. Trying to not slip and hurt yourself more while limping on ice is quite a feat, let me tell you. He has ordered an MRI, but his diagnosis on the form is torn meniscus- meaning that he, too, thinks that I screwed up the cartilage in my knee. Awesome.
Since the weather's been so bad - you've most likely heard about the ICE STORM 2007 that hit Central Texas - I've been staying at Mom's since she has gas heating and lives on the first floor, unlike me with the electric everything and third floor apartment. Thankfully, this is the case since I can't see myself trudging up and down those stairs with my knees like this. I say knees since my right one starts to hurt soon after I do anything to my left side since I then start putting more weight on my right one, which isn't so much better than the left. My ortho said, "Okay, let's take a look at your good knee." I said, "Well, you really can't classify either as good, you can just go with 'less injured.'" Sad, really.
So, I will try to update more now that I'm most likely going to be more homebound. I do not promise, however, to be coherent since I'm somewhat gorked up on vicodin.
