goodbye

Yesterday was my last teaching at Chapel Hill.

I was in the building running errands and meeting with the AP. That all took longer than I thought because I ran into one of the classroom teachers whose class I absolutely loved teaching. The kids were at lunch so I chatted with her for a while. Time got away from me so I headed to the office for my meeting with the AP. She had to run out for a minute so I made copies and called my mentor teacher... I asked her to place our Chopstix order and I'd just pick it up as soon as I was done. (Chopstix was a Thurday routine!)

I realized I didn't have my car keys on me so I ran back out to the "learning cottage" (haha) and opened the door... and heard "SURPRISE!!"

That same classroom teacher and my mentor teacher had been planning for more than two weeks to bring her class in to celebrate my last day with cupcakes, juice, balloons, flowers, cards, and gifts.

I got teacher gifts like chalk and magnetic tape, and sweet gifts like coconut Hershey's kisses and Pirouette cookies. All of the kids made me cards and I read each and every one of them while they were there. One of the kids said at one point, "That person drew a weird picture on the front of the card." I responded, "Well, I love it."

I thought I was going to cry. I smiled so much that my face hurt after they left twenty minutes later.

I'm really going to miss being there everyday. It was a blast teaching at my own elementary school, especially because the school atmosphere is so much the same as it was when I went there.

Now it's on to Patapsco High School... which I'm sure will be a great experience as well. I'll just miss everyone at Chapel Hill! Too bad I can't be in two places at once!
