I spent an hour today amongst the graves at Bukit Brown with my father. All four of my paternal great-grandparents are buried here somewhere.
1. This photo shows the section where we believe my great-grandfather, Lau Kim Tuan, is buried. My father recalls that his grave should lie "about two or three rows up from the roadside". There's no photo on the grave, but as my family is anglophile, his ...tombstone's distinguishing feature is that the text on it is in English.
2. My other great-grandfather, Lim Chee Seng, is lost somewhere "higher up the slopes" in another section. He was the first to own and operate Shell petrol stations in Singapore, and was the sole importer of Michelin car tyres. He loved how he resembled the Michelin man in girth!
3. We have forgotten the names of my two great-grandmothers. Lau Kim Tuan had one wife, and Lim Chee Seng had three. My grandmother, Lim Kim Geok @ Dorothy Lim, is (but of course) sprung from the loins of Lim Chee Seng's legitimate first wife.
If you have more information about any of the four above, please contact me.
