Retail Therapy Friday!

Nov 19, 2010 23:02

I took a day off today, and - this is hardly surprising because it's me - the day promptly became an exercise in Retail Therapy. The madness that was Paris has barely passed...why oh why do these irresistible offers persist in getting in my face?

Here's what I bought:
1. A Canon all-in-one printer - MX328. Because my old one's kaput (it was a BJC-210), and besides a broken paper tray, Canon Singapore no longer carries stock of the ink cartridge:

Now, I can print, scan, fax AND copy! Whee. (And the rest of the world who could all do that, like, 6 years ago can laugh at this technoramus now...)

And I went to the Affordable Art Fair. And bought some Affordable Art...

I liked seeing the professional packers from Rhema go totally overboard with miles of bubble-wrap. They even have Affordable Art Fair masking tape! I acquired three tiny acrylic on canvases (5R-sized) of Chinese Wayang characters painted by Singaporean artist Susanna Goho-Quek. These were images I knew I would have to get at some point in my life just because Dick posed as one for his Mad Chinaman album cover:

I've found ideal positions for all three pieces in my study. Susanna signed them upon my request, and after chatting with her, we realised two things: 1. I'd visited her gallery at Starhill in KL before, and she vaguely remembers showing me her precious ancient Tibetan prayer book and also a few pieces from her collection of Wayang costumes on which she based these mini paintings. 2. She's also the illustrator for Dr. K K Seet's new book!!! So I'll be seeing her again, together with dear K K at the launch on 11 Dec. Small world!

Then I went by Capitol, which is closing for redevelopment, and somehow ended up picking out an armful of cheap discs from the Gramophone Moving Out Sale:

Mostly CDs I'd always wanted by just couldn't bring myself to buy. Heh.

But my day had started much earlier - I was down at Expo to collect my Stan Chart Half Marathon pack. Anyone else going? I am still searching for someone living in the East Coast to share a cab with to the Sentosa Gateway starting point:
