There is so much for me to update on, but right now I feel a bit too drained to do it. In any case, though, I wanted to share something with you. A few weeks back my public relations agent set up an interview with my local paper, The West Linn Tidings, and that week a reporter and a photographer came over to my house. The article ran in the ( Read more... )

Hello, Kayla!
I just wanted to let you know that i finished reading your story & poem collection the other day. I've been meaning to write you an email or get in touch to let you know how much I liked it. Your stories pulled me in and with each one I felt at the end that I wanted to know more about these people and what would happen next.
Most of them feel like there should be more to come, though they don't feel 'unfinished'--just that each could be expanded into something more. One story, Going Back, seems like a real complete short story in itself, however. Yet I could still see that character continuing on with his life and making decisions that stem from his discoveries during the visit with his Dad, and also the visit with the young woman he had known in school. That story just has a more 'complete within itself' feel to it than the others. Don't know if I'm describing the difference well.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know I thought the stories were really good and enjoyed reading the book a lot. I also liked several of the poems; I'm not as much of a poetry reader, but I particularly liked Radiance.

Hi Janet!

I am really sorry that I didn't respond to your instant messages on AIM the other day! Elisa can tell you how infamous I am with signing on to a messenger and then forgetting to sign off before I leave. I was at school with my tutor and only saw that you had IMed me when I got back online. Sorry! :)

I'm so glad to hear that you liked the stories and poems in the book! Really, it always gives me a little boost of confidence to hear that my friends and family enjoy what I've done.

You're describing it just right, I think. :) I know what you mean when you say that some stories could be expanded or developed further, and on some levels, that was a conscious decision. Even though people can find it bothersome at times, I'm one of those people who enjoy stories that are left a bit open-ended that the readers can make up in their own minds what they believe should happen. I like it when a writer offers a little food for thought instead of just spoon-feeding information. But also, from a writing standpoint, I wanted to leave them a bit unfinished so if I was so inclined,I could go back to them and build on what's already there. This book is sort of a 'sampler', if you will, to give people a sense of who I am as a writer, and some things are going to be taken a little further in the future. :)

Thank you so much for reading it and taking the time to write and let me know your thoughts. I hope all is well with you! Take care!
