STORY NOTES:
- Written for scarlett71177's birthday. I hope you had a great day and an even better weekend!
- I've watched the Twilight movie and never read the books so I beg leniency on capturing the characters. Alice is one of my favorites besides Carlisle so not a surprise she was the focus of the drabble.
- I'm also finishing this in the middle of the night and it's been hovering around 100 degrees fahrenheit all weekend so if it's a little wonky forgive me, I'll reread it when I'm saner.

A steady dose of rain filled the skies above the field, but that didn't deter the Cullens from taking Bella with them for a little baseball. In fact, the weather was the perfect condition for them to truly let loose out there and have fun with the bouts of thunder covering the sounds of their strength.
Alice Cullen walked out with glove and ball in hand to the spot in the grassy field from where she always pitched on. Stretching her arms above her head, she smiled as the raindrops hit her face. The cool smell of dew and rain made for a wonderful scent to settle into.
Looking towards the plate she saw that it was Bella's turn to take a swing. The petite girl didn't have the strength or speed of the Cullens but that wasn't going to stop her or them from including her in on the fun - especially after what happened last time. Alice didn't have to turn around to know that Edward was pacing in the outfield at that moment.
Bella stepped up and tipped the bat towards Alice in acknowledgment to indicate she was ready. Alice smiled and tipped her cap in return. Normally she would then rip the ball across the sixty feet towards home plate and be ready to turn around and watch it fly in the air, in Bella's case the bat would probably break if she was lucky enough to make contact with the ball.
Keeping that in mind - and wanting her new friend to have fun - Alice took some off and threw the ball. Bella swung and missed. Alice sighed; she'd have to take into consideration the girl's lack of hand-eye coordination. Changing her grip on the ball, Alice threw a changeup and it seemed to trick Bella instead of helping her, as the bat swung before the ball reached the plate.
Sighing, Alice smiled at Bella and decided to stop trying to pitch for Bella - as that wasn't working - and instead pitch to her. If the girl was going to miss, the least Alice could do was play the right way. Winding up, Alice stretched and fired towards the plate, closing her eyes just as Bella swung the bat.
CRACK!
Alice's eyes snapped open in surprise and she noticed everyone looking up, shocked - including Bella. She had made contact and sent the ball flying into the air - straight up into a pop-up. Hearing the sounds of fast approaching footsteps Alice smiled and watched as Edward appeared in the area to catch the pop fly. He caught the ball and tossed it to Bella with a smile while the rest of the Cullens - including Alice - rushed in to congratulate the girl.
She might've made an out, but she did more than anyone expected by hitting a pitch from Alice. The two girls shared a smile and Alice knew things would work out with Bella ... eventually.
