Saw it this afternoon. Was unexpectedly spoiled yesterday on tumblr with a pic of Tom Hiddleston's spoiler tweet (DAMN LOKI). Still think its crazy the buzz for this movie. I wonder how much of this has more to do with Robert Downey Jr who seems to be box office gold since the first Iron Man.
Trailers wise. Frankenweenie looks cute. Brave looks awesome. Prometheus looks interesting. Some Shia Labeauf/Tom Hardy movie looks curious. Battleship I have no interest in and I don't know. No TDKR or TASM. SAD.
Quick hit spoilers
- Easily, Agent Coulson is the star of the Avengers. It's amazing what a small role on Iron Man gotten by being friends with Favreau has grown into this beloved character.Hated what happened but it was fitting for him to be the catalyst of the group. Loved him fanboying all over Cap.
- That scene between Loki/Hulk was insane. It was almost too vicious to watch, nearly looked away at ragdoll!Loki.
- I love that once the battle got going Captain America asserted himself as a leader, taking point and moving people around. Suits him more than Tony. Totally noticed that they went out of their way never to call him Captain America.
- It was great to not only see some Tony/Pepper but to clearly see them all over each other. It was sweet. And that later scene with the phone. Ugh.
- I was really disappointed with the use of Thor, but the Hulk/Thor moments were great. Seeing them fight together and then Hulk hit Thor afterward anyway was funny.
- I'm glad they tried to include the fact that Black Widow is Russian, and the insane moves she pulled off in that undercover interrogation was cool. She brought up that ledger and clearing out the red WAY too much.
- Maria Hill was fantastic. Her driving early in the SHIELD base, her fighting when Hawkeye attacked the helicarrier and I do hope that maybe she will take over for the Son of Coul as the go between for the characters and SHIELD.
- Nice to see Fury kick some ass. I think Sam Jackson has lost some weight, I remember not thinking favorably about his appearance in Iron Man 2 but it looks like a more featured role has really got him committed to being awesome.
- It was smart for the movie to tie the two big emotional moments to Iron Man characters, the most successful Marvel franchise that's part of the Avengers (Coulson/Loki & Stark/Nuclear Missile) and who the mass people would most be connected to.
