A lot like last week's episode, it felt like the show created a lot of needless drama involving Lois. Like anyone believes that break-up at the end will last, or that she wouldn't have used her thinking to realize she could have sped back to Clark and protect him before Toyman's supposed team would confront the "Blur" instead giving over her control with Clark's powers to Toyman - even for a limited time that was stupid. BTW, I'm glad they limited the "life-bond" idea to the first scene before the intro.
I was looking forward to Kara's return to Smallville. I can't believe we hadn't seen her since "Supergirl" SEVEN MONTHS AGO. Does not feel like it has been that long. I was disappointed when all of her interaction was limited to Oliver and Jor-El, I had been hoping for some cousin bonding on the show - maybe in their mild mannered "disguises". And I HATE how DC in every universe keeps tying Supergirl to spending her future IN THE FUTURE with the legion and eventually getting together with Brainiac 5. I couldn't stand when they did it in Justice League Unlimited, and to do it in Smallville here, UGH.
I was really disappointed with how little involvement Tess had with the episode. It has really felt like outside of the Clark Luthor episodes there really hasn't been any use of her since the first half of the season when we learned of her true heritage. She's dwindling in this background character role much like when they created Isis for Lana and then Chloe. The crime-fighting has really been reduced to Clark & Lois than anyone else.
AND I find the "league" references to be really annoying. WHERE THE FUCK has John Jones been? He hasn't been on Smallville since last season and I really feel like Phil Morris should have been on the show this final season.
One thing I did enjoy was the Lana reference! SOMEONE remembers her sacrifice for Clark. While I did not care for the whole fighting Lana that reappeared in S8 and then took up that super suit, that goodbye scene in the loft still kills me. And despite the irritating idea that apparently everyone except the Daily Planet knows that Clark Kent is the "Blur", I couldn't help but wonder how Toyman knew all those details about Lana's sacrifice unless he learned of it from someone who was involved. If it wasn't Clark or Lana .... ;)
Unfortunately I was hoping for this episode to be a stepping stone for the first hour of next week's finale where I hoped the wedding and Darkseid would be dealt with, while the second half of the finale would be an epilogue of sorts dealing with Clark becoming Superman and Lex returning. Now I don't see that happening, and leaves me in a very iffy spot waiting for the finale.
I'm hoping to do a few Smallville top 10 posts on my blog during the next week to celebrate the final episode. Right now I am planning a top 10 episodes, and kisses, with possibly doing a top 10 super power moments. Ideas are welcome, either another top 10 or a suggestion for one of the ones i mentioned.
