Smallville 10.19 "Dominion"

Oh, wait. That wasn't a quote from the episode? Would have expected with the whole Gladiator/Spartacus/300 vibes this episode was giving off. Critics of this season talked about how Collateral reminded them of the Matrix or Fortune was like The Hangover, but both of those episodes didn't suffer while I just could not get into this episode once the whole arena aspect started. It only got worse when Clark and Oliver then donned gear that had them looking like Roman gladiators, and then the slow-mo action moves and the splattering of blood - I stopped taking the episode seriously.

It was great to see Callum Blue again. The fact that I didn't know he was returning until sometime around Scion I feel is a victory because it is so hard to stay spoiler free with how liberal people are with show news on Twitter & Tumblr. I'll be honest and say he looked and sounded a little different and I had several double takes to make sure it was Callum playing Zod. I don't like how they wrote him though, every other line was either Kal-El was not a good brother or you can be my new brother Oliver.

Back to the ridiculousness, I am getting tired of the current showrunners continually trying to fit the square peg of Smallville into the circle hole of Superman continuity and not sticking to the fact that this is a different universe for Superman and is entitled to be slightly different. The whole, oh look Zod is trapped with two other people in one of those floating prison thingies that used to mean they were in the Phantom Zone but we're changing that because you see that means they are now ready for their appearance in the Superman 2 movie.

And I thought the whole Lois pulling a gun on Tess was a bit much. The idea that they would use Booster's technology to create a kind of radio device to communicate with the Phantom Zone was bizarre/unbelievable and honestly, what would they do with being able to talk? Seemed pointless and honestly, probably didn't even need Tess or Lois in this episode.

Also the preview for prophecy ... I couldn't stop laughing at how Clois fanficish it sounded. "Jor-El, I'm here to declare my desire to start a life bond with this woman." XD
