Christmas - It's the only reason

So, apparently I'm a masochist now, but I've seen this on a few of my friends pages (race_the_ace and stormylullabye) and I want to reward the friends who continue to read my stories even though I'm so sporadic in updating, and the new ones I continue to make ( Read more... )

“With Doctor Keller’s supervision Kusangi and Simpson have been working in a lab they believe provided an alternate form of conception. I look after their plants,” Evan nodded, knowing that David looked after most of the plants in and around the city, “a small tree they have in the corner, and as I was in there last month I guess I activated the main device.”

Evan thought about that for a moment, “I distinctly don’t remember parts of you becoming more female.”

David blushed and ducked his head.

“All the changes happened inside his body,” Doctor Keller took over the explanation. “His body was forced to make room for the equivalent of a uterus for fertilization and the first few months of development.”

“What do you mean by the first few months?” Evan asked alarmed. Was their child not expected to survive?

“Around the second trimester the fetus will be transferred into an artificial womb, as is the norm for male induced pregnancies. I’ve been going through the data on transfers all day and it is completely safe, both for the child and the parent.”

Evan glanced at David, wondering how he was dealing with it all and then it dawned on him. David had known all day, had already had time to come to terms with it, as had Keller and probably whomever she’d added onto the project now that understanding it went beyond curiosity. The stomach ache this morning, that must have been when he found out.

He’s pretty sure she should be annoyed, being told that much later in the day but he’d not. He’d been on duty and he’d never have been able to concentrate if David had come to him immediately. He’s not even sure how David could have gone to the greenhouses at all.

“What kind of protection does the womb have and how does it provide nourishment?”

“The lab runs on an independant power source which I will have Rodney look over to make sure it is viable and the womb is encased in a plexiglass like containment that’s also shielded once a transfer is complete. I’m still going over the details concerning nourishment but I did note that a once a week hook up with the parent ensures the fetus inherits the base immunities that any child revokes in its mothers womb.”

Evan nodded, trusting her to update them whenever she learned something new.

She looked between them. “We are not going into this complete unprepared guys. I believe this is the only the device the Ancients left us an abundance of information on, for not only did they use with male pregnancies but with woman who were having trouble conceiving or carrying a child to birth.”

Evan smiled gratefully, “Thanks Doc. Do you mind giving us some alone time?”

Keller assure them that she didn’t expect anyone else in today, not that that truly meant much in Atlantis before heading to her office.

Evan turned on the bed and pulled David close, kissing his temple, “How are you feeling?”

David returned the hold tightly, “Scared. Happy. Excited. I’m all over the place. You’re kind of...nowhere though.”

“Oh, I’m excited.”

David pulled back and frowned at him, “You don’t sound excited.”

Evan snorted, “I’m still stuck at the part where I knocked up my boyfriend.”
