My brother in law Ed is a damn good builder. He doesn't just slap stuff together. He's a total professional, and a craftsman, and he's been building and remodeling houses for so long that he sees a house project the way I see a sentence. He speaks the language of carpentry.
That's why my little mudroom project, though modest, is making me so happy: because everything that Ed has ever done on this house (complete reconstruction of the
front porch, the
famous bathroom, the roof and gutters) has made my tiny old house a better place to live.
