Voter Turnout

I read in an article that a "record number" of youth voters turned out this general election. Good. But then in the article, it says that turnout was about 50%. I feel record turnout should be more than that! It certainly seemed like it. Almost everyone I know voted in this election. Anyway, we can do even more next time. Will I still be a youth voter then anyway?
