So, last night I dreamt I was married, and the zombie apocalypse started while we were on honeymoon, and my wife got flayed alive and fed into a meat grinder because I didn't rescue her on time from the zombie-creating bad guy in the hotel.
... Twilight dreams, come back D:

Did you at least get to avenge her death?

AND THEN I WOKE UP. WHAT GIVES?
This is doubly annoying because in my sister's dreams I'm a badass. Seriously, I'm the tank, I slow the enemy while she pushes the button/flips the switch/uses the special attack that stops him and his evil plans. Or I distract the enemy by hitting them across the back of the head with a hockey stick/rounders' bat/frying pan.
So why I was on D: mode and useless after my wife's death when I'm normally kick-ass, I don't know!

When I tend to dream about gruesome and horrible things. It's one of those 'all of this is perfectly normal, lalala' it's only when I wake up that I go 'that was horrible! Screw you, brain' D:

I seem to be about 60/40 as to whether I react/don't react. It also seems to depend on the nature of the violence; if it's gory violence inflicted on myself, and I get stabbed to death/cut open, I don't tend to react. Anything inflicted on other people though, and I get really distressed.
Unless I'm in hero mode, which sometimes happens - I've had a few dreams where I've had to stab a baddie with a pen, tie up a friend's wound with my bandana, and help them limp while carrying an unconscious friend over my shoulder XD.
I love badass dreams.

I think with me it's anything where I'm not being chased/stalked. If everyone is behaving perfectly normally then it's all fine. Like gore is not inherently threatening to my dream self. Though I'd much rather be kicking ass and protecting my friends, like you, than sitting around having tea with skinless people. Badass dreams are indeed awesome.
