Not so adventurous adventure-times! :O

Today I made Shepherd's Pie for the first time ever because after watching Celebrity Big Brother Come Dine With Me (yes, I know there are so many problems indicated in my viewing tastes by that title alone but my brain occasionally demands comfort food television, DON'T JUDGE ME) it pinged my interest. As the net results of this venture into ( Read more... )

It really was. The intention had been to have some tonight and the rest tomorrow but me and my sis both wound up with second helpings XD. That's the problem with making something yummy for the first time, your brain goes EAT MORE, I'VE NEVER TASTED THIS BEFORE, IT MAY NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN WITHIN MY LIFETIME and your ability to resist indulging goes out of the window.

See also; my first experience with fresh sushi. I think I ate the equivalent of a whole salmon.

I'm not a huge fan of Shepherd's Pie... although my parents always make it with ground beef instead. I've always found it very bland.

But I'm glad it makes you happy. I myself had 2nd helpings today of rhubarb crisp... I have a weakness for fruity desserts... especially of the crisp/crumble variety. Mmm~~

Cottage pie I'd probably have to change the recipe up a fair bit - I find beef, as much as I prefer it to lamb, can be made to taste very boring very easily. I've always wanted to chase up the recipe on the hairy bikers they did where it was beef mince baked inside a sort of bread crust instead of a pie crust - it sounded epic, and was lightly spiced with cumin. Mmmmmmm :).

Alas, I have irritating purely psychological allergies to most fruits, so I have to rule most of them out; I can normally handle berries and melons (and, interestingly, watermelon at least is technically a berry), but most of the rest - oranges, apples, pears, bananas etc - tend to deeply upset my stomach. It's frustrating but I can't do much about it as my brain doesn't register them as food ^^.

This does sound yummy - I've not made shepherd's pie in a while and now it's getting colder it's time to start cooking warm and filling foods!

Interesting piece of trivia related to the above comment - it's only shepherd's pie when there are sheep in it. If it's made with minced beef, then it's cottage pie.

I'm already stocking up on bramley apple sauce :D. I love winter foods, to be honest - the only things of summer I really miss are strawberries and melons. The rest I can live without for the most part!

Shepherd's pie and cottage pie have (quite wrongly, in my opinion) become interchangeable in most places, especially outside Northern England. Although that said, cottage pie should technically have potato slices on top instead of mash - the look of the baked potato slices is what gave it that name in the first place ^^!

I'd highly recommend it. Worcester sauce is my ingredient of the day at the moment - since tasting it when using it for barbeque ribs, I've been noseying at all the recipes I would have ruled out before that use it!

Mmmmmmmmmm shepherd's pie. This sounds DELICOUS, I might try it at some point! :D (Current method involves getting the boyfriend of awesome to make me shepherd's pie, and then being full of glee when it periodically ends up as shepherd's soup because he added too much wine and/or milk. :D)

:D it did turn out pretty darned awesome. I love things like this where there are multiple variations - it means I can pick and choose from existing pre-proven recipes and decide what I want out of them :D!
