Yay, River fan! I didn't want to disappoint the Doctor either, hehe. I know what you mean about 'selectively' too, I love me some early CSI or Without a Trace but when you just say a show it always brings to mind it's most current iteration, heh.

Yeah, sometimes a show can even be simultaneously brilliant and terrible, especially when they give the brilliant characters a tiny amount of screentime and the terrible characters all the screentime.

I know what you mean--it's like the producers get excited for certain actors and decide, to the detriment of the show, to focus on them a lot :\ That happened in SGA and SG-1, IMO, and while I liked both characters they focused on, it was not good for either show :(
