At Aleksii's birthday dinner, Jazod suggested an informal practice this morning to work single sword. It was me, Jazod,
a_l_e_k_s_i_i & Hengis. It was a slow start for all of us, though a beautiful sunny morning. I had a hard time getting my head in the game: my armor felt heavy and my arms felt like lead. We fought a couple of rounds, but I couldn't get it together, so I said to Jazod, "Hit me in the head."
"What?" He said.
"Hit me in the head." He hit me, high on the helm and without much pop. I told him to do it again, and he did, this time a solid hit to the side of the head. The jolt shook me up a little and I fought a little better after that. I felt more present in the moment.
So we started sword and shield, and I got warmed up fighting Jazod and the Hengis. I sucked with Jazod. Better with Hengis, I was able to work on faking a bit. Here's something John Wulfstan gave me that I'm proud of getting the hang of: it's so simple but it's like, my first trick! I threw at Hoss's head, and he blocked it, and I was already spinning the sword in a tight circle to throw at the same spot just as he dropped his shield to see. Bam! Heheheheheh.
Single sword was tough but ok. I worked on being more aggressive, more initiative. That went better. We did a single sword bearpit.
We played with great swords last, and that was fun. I went out against Jazod first and I was a little nervous. But I actually did really well. It was a lot of work though, I'd forgotten how tiring greatsword is, and how I had bad habits like not breathing when I was throwing. I'll be bringing it out to practice and working all three forms whenever possible.
elspethn insisted on feeding us, it was lovely!
