Swift Boat Veterans

Aug 26, 2004 20:37

In the latest round of attacks by the so-called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth," these men (many of whom claim "I served with John Kerry," yet never met him) finally get to something near the truth. They are finally admitting that the reason they are so upset with John Kerry is that when he got home from serving his country in Vietnam, he protested the war and testified before Congress in an effort to end the atrocities being committed on both sides. As the daughter of a decorated war veteran, I feel that if John Kerry witnessed the horrors of war and decided he must speak out against them, he had earned that right.
To claim that atrocities never happened is to stick our heads in the sand and allow atrocities to occur again. Even worse, to call someone a liar for speaking out against well-documented facts such as the destruction of the Vietnamese countryside via napalm and Agent Orange is akin to neo-Nazis denying the Holocaust. The tactics of this group are vile and have no place in intelligent political discussion. It is time for Bush to denounce these ads.
