I'm home sick today. i woke up feeling nauseous and dizzy. When I stood up to walk, I almost fell down. I also almost fell down while drying off in the shower. So, I laid back down, got up for a minute and ran to the bathroom to puke (yuck). So, I decided I would not go to work today. I slept another two or so hours, which felt really nice.
I'm still feeling crappy, though not so dizzy and pukey.
Spent this weekend making applesauce and canning it. Right now I have made 30 half pints of applesauce (for those mathematically impaired, that's 15 pints or 7.5 quarts (I think)). We still have enough apples to do maybe 18 more half pints (I think). Since I'm home sick today, I may make at least one more batch. After that, I would have to go buy more jars and more brown sugar.
Friday we went to a fancy dinner and dancing party for
herbert42's school. It was the end of alumni day. It was held at the JFK Memorial Library, to which I had never been. It was really beautiful and stunning. The view of Boston from the windows was breathtaking. Some of the JFK memorabilia was a little overwhelming. But they had copies of telegrams between JFK and Krushev (sp, I'm sure). I was surprised they displayed these, because Krushev's replies were very well written, eloquent, and had many good points. They talked about us violating international law and being bullies. Sound familiar? Not like we are still doing that or anything!
The party itself was pretty nice. It wasn't a sit down dinner. There were lots of appetizers and then a small buffet (where they only gave you a little bit of food, so you had to keep going back in order to be full). It was open bar, but for some reason, I did not take full advantage of it. Also,
herbert42 had informed me that this would be a fancy event, so I got quite dressed up (I wore the Bridesmaid dress from
queenofalostart's wedding, some nice shoes, a fancy shawl, and pretty make-up). I was extremely over dressed for this occasion. I know
herbert42 said I was fine, but I felt really uncomfortable and silly.
They had a live band, but no one was dancing. I had to drag herbert42 onto the dance floor. Then we dragged some of his friends onto the dance floor. Then we did a frikkin' congo line through all the tables trying to recruit people to dance, and NO ONE JOINED US! Tough crowd. Silly scientists. Eventually others did come join us and the dance floor was pretty full. The shoes I wore cut my toe so I had to take them off. that made dancing on a full dance floor challenging, as I did not want my toesies to get stepped on.
all in all it was a fun evening.
Not much else this weekend. Oh, wait, we carved pumpkins, which was fun
flyrabbit and Saul joined us. we now have three scary pumpkins on our porch. We tried to light them last night, but it was so windy that two blew out. Ah well.
