Second-last week of August had a much overdue visit to Starbucks with
Eric one.
We talked of summer love, school, iPods, books, movies, thunderstorms, ice-cream and new things, old things. Always lovely. I'm happy I got to see him (even just the once) before he returned to university back in Ottawa. I'm a terrible procrastinator-of-a-friend with him. We went to the
mount mckay lookout just nearing dusk. It was beautiful.
Speaking of IPods. My sister's bday was on the 8th and now she is fifteen.
My dad forked out for a black iPod nano which totally I was discussing with him about but waiting on. This made my "sisterz forever" photo in frame with her favourite candy and cookies and dark make-up look like I threw it together the last minute (which i honestly did.) However, did bake a fantastic chocolate cake. And she was invited out by her friends which was very sweet... Oh, I don't remember much about being fifteen...
I took about a heavenly six days off from work and it was lovely time spent. Work
is lovely though. The people are overall great and I'm thankful that I worked full-time for the summer and just gained alot more experience and work on my people and communication skills. (Which I must continue to work on my personal list!). I must admit though I consider myself to be quiet and awkward in nature...i've been asked to return to work, so I must be doing okay. I'm attached to my university now. Sometimes, I prefer it to home. And this city. I just find it most satisfying to be productive and to be with good people. Maybe, I'm just imagining things to be so much bigger...
I love my weekends more and more these days...it's likely because of working and finishing that summer class
(Intro Psychology), which was an interesting class because the professor was a really funny guy. The material was just a thin-layer. I'm thinking about taking more psych classes in the summer again. And as for my schedule this school year... Retrospectively, I've hopped from BSc. Chemistry to Bsc. Biology to currently a BA. Anthropology. I'm working up a self-definition of what Anthropology as a discipline means to me and the field is appeals to me because of its holistic approach and context ... I feel like I am more confident in the "Arts" than to purely "Science". I have some foundation to build on than in a science stream. Anthropology is kind of a leech on so many other areas, and I feel like if I do go the science stream later, then I'd have a much wider perspective and understanding of things. I'm definitely procrastinating on my to-do and follow-up list...I'm taking Intro Anthropology and two second-year Anthropology classes as the Prof. suggested and picked Human Anatomy as my elective... it feels right and I like that I don't know too many people in my classes. I had the hardest time deciding and didn't even firmly say that I had changed programs to my parents. Until tuition. Well, I intended on mentioning it twice before, but always pushed it to "later". I was like "I'll pay for it! I have enough." It's just very stressful and has always been communicating with them. But I think they're cool about it. So it was a huge breath. I don't let my own emotions purely guide me. But other's strong emotions do influence me and I'm just learning to just... I don't know... but things are okay and I'm still figuring out what I'd liked to do and my own plan and being good. I suppose, I must be personal in what I do. I will work on my strengths...
On one of the days for Orientation - it was International Buddies bowling night.
I signed up for the program because I felt like it that day when the guy from the Study asked Ashley and Sarah too. I thought it'd be neat to meet new people, and it sure is. I met my buddy
Lee Shen earlier that day to show her around the campus. She is from Malaysia but studying in Singapore. We started in the Agora and played Buddy Bingo where we had chatted with each to find out for example, who could speak 3 languages. Then the ultra-quick scavenger hunt and a nice walk to the bowling alley. On our team, we had
Timo from Sweden and
Tomás from Louisiana,US. It's really neat that
International & Grad Studies organized this program. I think everyone had fun. We had pretty interesting conversations everywhere from tap water to the colour of grass, and grass vs. weed vs. pot, to landscapes, the weather, politics and food of course and it was a very enjoyable night.
And, earlier than bowling night was the Orientation BBQ Night
Movies, Music, Oh My!. And
Brandon and I went to check it out. We had free veggiedogs and also saw fellow Student Ambassador and pal
Ashley and her sister and Courtney and Mike. Didn't get too many pictures. Music was okay. DJ Tommy was charmingly funny (you slaughterer, you Tom!). We didn't stay the whole night, and surprisingly the event was shut down early because of noise complaints.
Well, I've been spending alot of TLC time with
a special someone now that he is back. I have him hooked on Food Network. And we watch movies. It's sweet. Brandon and I and Cody went shopping at wal-mart this afternoon to stock up on goods. Including air fresheners and flip-flops. Oh college boys. Bumped into Ashley as well.
...another weekend well spent... it feels like a long time since I've written!
