Poor, poor Joseph

.............I have been sucked into Any Dream Will Do. I hate a lot of things about it but it doesn't stop it from being addictive. I haven't been watching for the entirity of the series - I came into it when Rob left, I think. Ben left last night, but it was about 4 weeks too late - I think that he was fun but definitely NOT the right person to play Joseph. He could play Pharoah, perhaps...or else he would do well in a Rock and Roll musical, along the lines of Elvis, Buddy or Grease.  It's a shame that he stayed for so long, when people like Daniel and Craig (who I had a soft spot for) had to lose out

Now....A dilemma ensues.

Lee, week in week out, has been the most natural performer. He has such a different persona: the way he holds himself on stage is just so striking. He is a natural. With a great voice. But...is he Joseph?? This isn't X Factor - it's not about simply who the best performer is, it's about the person who is most right for the part. Whenever I see Joseph, or read it in the Bible for that matter, I hate him. He's a pretentious little brat, and it's really easy to see why the others wanted rid of him. That's why I think Lee is almost too good, maybe too mature even, to play a spoilt teenager. Dare I say - and risk being a hypocrite - that perhaps Lewis would make a better Joseph? Notice Keith doesn't enter the equation - in my opinion he looks about 12 and has one of those faces you just want to smack. Good voice, but I think he would be better in tight jeans prancing around on We Will Rock You. Not Joseph.

I had a premonition watching Lee last night. During his song I turned to Mum and said what an AMAZING Che he would make. and then what happened? He was made to sing "Oh What a Circus"...and, yes, he would make a brilliant Che. He sang it brilliantly. If only Evita hadn't just been on. He could have done that and we could have Lewis as Joseph.

The MOST annoying thing about ADWD is the booing of and arguing with the judges. Their criticism is neccessary, and often very observant. And, if these boys REALLY want to go into the business they've got to learn to respect and value what the critics say...not all theatre critics are as tactful as the ADWD judges - they're lucky to have this mentoring.

Oh well. Mum and I still voted for Lee, as he was and is clearly the best performer. And I will probably vote him in the final...but lewis is playing on my mind.
