Sometimes, we just slip and fall into mucky water or an open manhole. Things are so dark and dismal there, everything seems colorless, hopeless and joyless. But as we stop shedding tears and wallowing in self-pity, we slowly come out of the darkness, light streams in.

count your blessings, name them one by one and you'll be surprised at what the Lord hast done!
