Haha, hiiii! I just got myself a new laptop so now I can actually be on here for more than 30 minutes at a time... and seeing as Disney's 'Aladdin' is taking a while to load, I'm going to tell all you loverly OOOOOOOrrrstralians aboout what I've been upto.
Now it being almost 4 months since I left you would expect me to have a lot to say. Well... not really :P I suppose I shall start from the begining and collectively pool all my memories into some coherant timeline...
So. September. I arrived in Norwich and it was cold and miserable, but I was still super excited!! I remember getting off of the train and noticing a girl with some cool tattoos on her wrists and she looked a little alternative. Little did I know she noticed my Bouncing Souls t-shirt and thought Hrm... she's likes cool bands and then we got on the bus and very little eye contact was made. But more about that later. I arrived in my first room which was in the middle of the city centre called Mary Chapman Court. Oh my lord, I felt like I stepped into a prison movie!!! I remember having a mild freak out at the dank and depressiveness of the accomodation - stone stairwell, brown carpet, the walls weren't even plastered so they were just slabs of concrete on one another and I was the first and only person in my flat for about two days... until a nice young chap by the name of Josh (he was from Wisconsion in the US) showed up and we became pals... crazy curly-haired raggamuffin!! So yeah, I managed to settle myself into MCC, but all the while planning to move on campus cause it was so much easier to get there and much nicer to look at.
There were quite a few 'international' events cause all the international students arrived a week before the British ones and this is how I mainly met the friends I have now. Before one of the induction seminars I remember sitting on my own with a hot chocolate looking all shy and nervous when the chick with the cool tattoos came and sat down next to me and introduced herself - granted it took me about 3 days to learn her name properly (and she called me Carla for the first week) but now me and Svanhild are awesomely close friends, I'm planning to go to Norway at Easter and apparently I'm to be married to her (very hot and very tattooed) older brother! SCORE!! Oh, and Joe's going out with her too.
So yeah, along with Svan I made friend with another Norweigen - Andrea, and then theres Charlotte, Heather, Lisa and a bunch of other people you probably don't really care about! Ha!
So yeah, uni started and thats where it begins to go downhill. :P Na, I kid... uni's fun! The first few months were basically full of drinking way too much on Mondays at a Morrocan-themed student club called Ponana (or Poos as it's affectionately called) and I never ever made it to my 9am lecture on Tuesday! There's also this awesome alternative club place called the Waterfront that is kinda like Engima with it's music and people, but a fuckload bigger so I like it :) Svan and I went to see Capdown play their last tour - which was awesome cause I've been into them since I was about 16 but would never have had the oppertunity to see them!
Hrm, there was also Paris... ahhhh Paris... what a beautiful city!!! The people there weren't so nice, but the city itself is magical! I went with Josh and Aundi (two Americans) and were were only there for three days so we only got to see the main sites - visted the Louvre and got a picture of myself grinning like a spaz in front of the Mona Lisa, and climbed the Effiel Tower with our backpacks!! No lame-ass lift for us... we climbed the WHOOOOLE way! And someone had created a gigantic loveheart on the gardens at the bottom of the tower so when you looked down you could see it... soooo romantic (would have been better to share it with someone... but meh). Then the next day (after sleeping in a room that smelled of wee wee) we went to the Catacombs, Mont Marte, Moulin Rouge (major dissapointment), Notre Dame (I looked like a spaz by imitating the huntchback out the front), Arc de Triomphe and the back to Mont Marte to see the Parisian skyline at night... ohhhh what a day! Then we went back home cause I had to work. Blech!
So yeah, after my hippie free-living student lifestyle I decided I needed money and got myself a job. At BB's Cafe - which is Australian and has a New Zealand Natural ice cream in it! Cuh-razy! The people there are cool and I get on with my boss really well so all in all it's a cool place to work. Money is money! Ugh I get bored just typing about it.. in fact I'm getting bored already but Aladdin is still only a smidgen loaded so onwards I shall press!
Hrm... what else has been happening? Really... not a whole lot! Just working and such over the Christmas break. I went down and spent Christmas on an RAF base which was cool! Got to see the relatives and catch up with them - not to mention scoring £1000 from my nanna and a rainbow topaz and diamond ring for my 21st!! Veeery happy about that! Oh yeah, my birthday. Quite low key. I rrreeeeaaaaaallyyyyy missed everyone back home for that. I was really hanging out for a chilled bbq with beer and friends and then maybe a trip into town a little later... but instead I just got drunk with my flat then we all went into the city centre and drank more... still low key, but I did want to spend it with the people who've known me longer than 3 months!! Oh well... we'll have to have a make up 21st when I get back ;)
Oh, in the meantime I moved into my new flat on campus which is much nicer than MCC. It's purple, for starters which is cool and most of my flatmates are stoners so it's nice to have access to weed now and then so I can relax... it's like I've digressed back into high school where all I'm doing is drinking wayyyy too much, smoking and occassionally going to lectures :P Ohhhh uni life - can't get that back home! I've actually really enjoyed living on campus, it's such a relaxed atmosphere and everyone is sooooo easy going... we're known as 'the hippie flat' but I think thats just cause one of the guys is a vegan who hails from Kansas in the US... so he's kinda made us all hippie's by association. Aaaand there's also quite a few cute guys in my flat too... which is always nice!! No coupling up in flats tho - two people have already tried that and failed and now it's a little uncomfortable for everyone... but we're all pretty laid back so it hasn't been too much of an issue.
So yeah, uni holidays have just ended and it's back to the books - which is much better cause I have HATED working 40 hour weeks at BBs... I'm just not cut out for boring, repetative manual labour - give me something worthwhile, like teaching! Augh! Being in a shitty minimum wage job has made me realise how much I want to actually DO something with my life. The oldest person working at BBs is only 26, but pretty much has nothing else acomplished so it's given me motivation to NOT be stuck in a job like that for years and years and to actually move up in the world... I don't know how I'm going to go working there full time once I finish my stint here.
I plan to travel once I finish at UEA (come on, Europe is like 45 minutes away!) but that requires money, and money requires working. LAAAAAAME. Speaking of travelling, Svan and I got really drunk the other week and kinda booked tickets to a 4 day music and camping festival. Cool, cool you might think, but it's in Serbia (!) and we have no idea how to get there or who's actually playing so yay for us!! Haha, it was only £90 for the 4 days (it seemed like a good deal at the time) so now we have to make our way over to Eastern Europe in the middle of summer to get there! Whoops! Should be an adventure tho! Haha!
Recently there's just been more classes and things to get used to. Oh, there's a guy in my Aussie Politics, Culture and Society (oh yes, I'm taking that!) who looks heaps like Dean from Supernatural (and anyone who knows me knows how much I love my Dean!) sooo I'm completely smitten. Too bad he's the captain of the Rugby team, so unless this turns all Hollywood Teen RomCom and the popular sports jock falls for the intelligent alternative girl in a weird twist of clarity... I'm stuck with just sneaking glances at him without looking too obvious. *sigh*... So yes this pretty much answers the burning question you all have - "What's Caila's love life like?" completely fucking non-existant. I swear I still have 'just friends' tattooed on my forehead, not that I've really 'tried it on' with anyone else (haha, British term)... I just can't seemed to find any suitable guy, cause my friendship circle is slowly dwindling as the year goes on... I need to find me some new friends (perferably with hot and single guy friends!)... *double sigh*
So I haven't really left Norwich since I've been here, but Svan and I are planning a trip to London on Friday which involved spending obsene amounts of money at Camden, and *hopefully* running into Noel Fielding and having amazingly wild androgenous glam rocker punk sex til one of us dies... (hopefully him so I can still do what I like with his dead body... eww thats wrong but oh-so-right). Yes. Noel... Mmmmmmm.
Okay, that about updates my life from then til now. Ha, I love how it was semi-detailed when I begun and just got sooo vauge and non-commital as I went on... but I'm tired :P I do promise from now on to update more often so things are a little more detailed for y'all. That's if you're interested. Ha!
Loooooove xo
