School Searching

So, I'm beginning the search for PhD programs, and I've decided going in that I'm going to be really picky about where I apply - I'm very, very grateful for my current placement, and I'm learning and growing here in leaps and bounds and getting benefits I wouldn't elsewhere (like a fully funded MA and two years of experience as a lead instructor), but the fit isn't quite there, and it has to be there if I'm investing four more years of my life. I am terrified that I'm not going to find schools where I'll fit and that, if I do, they won't want me.

But I just stumbled across a school I'd never heard of or looked into before and read their website and all their information about their program, and I literally have butterflies. My breath stopped short. Just one of those yes, this, this is it! moments. It's a program that runs hard at the boundary between theory and practice, it's in New York (the state, not the city), and has a BFA in Musical Theatre that students have to audition for, which means the department is invested in musical theatre as an artform, but it also does lots of fun performance arty stuff.

I'm just...it's like a weight is lifted. I might not get into there, of course, but I have my heart set so hard on UT Austin I worried that nothing else would compare, and it's really exciting to be, well, excited about another program.

Fingers crossed that the hits keep on coming and they all want me to come play with them.
