Watching "America's Next Top Model" on VH1, I was reminded of how different all of our individual mindsets are.
Even for topics that most of us can agree on, there will always be people who don't feel the same way. Whether it's something as crucial as the Patriot Act or as petty as "Spider-Man 2," conflicting viewpoints are forever present. As a planet, we will never be able to see eye to eye.
Everything is relative. Even if we did manage to find something we all felt the same about, surely someone would diverge immediately, either due to a newfound opinion or fear of conformity.
Diversity keeps things dynamic. I do feel, however, that it would be nice for us to find one fairly major thing to concur on. It would make things easier. Of course, life is far from easy, isn't it? :)
Mom tells me I need to lighten up, to not let her husband's bigoted comments get to me..."life's too short." I feel that the minute we don't get fed up by such intolerance, we are sowing seeds for more of it. She says we all, at one point or another, have some sort of prejudiced thought. Okay. I'll accept that. But the people who always have those thoughts and actually verbalize them are the ones I'm worried about.
You know what would have been SO NICE? If she had gotten to know him before walking down the aisle. Now she's brainwashed and I can't do anything about it. Marriage is tricky. Maybe it's no wonder that divorce is so common. I'm still holding out hope for the Wellings, though.
This rumination is overwhelming.
