Stupid Girl

I’ve been on a serious Shirley Manson kick.

That involves listening to songs of hers I’d never heard before and revising the classics.

My life is very free of celebrity-adoration, so it is remarkable that I seem to be ‘crushing’ on her. She obviously means things to me, by virtue of her persona or otherwise.

I think there are straight lines from my feelings for Heather that went straight into Shirley Manson. The similarities between the two people are non-trivial. There is the superficial level: older redhead women of Scottish descent, of similar physical frame and appearance. But then there’s more: the shades of darkness, the personal strength, the love and flair of musical artistry.

Ha. I think I’ve cracked that puzzle: Shirley is a depersonalised Heather to me. Nice to solve at least one riddle.

My psyche is remarkably built for spiritual interpretations (that’s another story) and just as Heather was a nexus of synchronicity to me, Shirley did similar for me today.

Her song, the classic ‘Stupid Girl’, was playing today, the live version linked below, and for the first time ever, the lyrics resonated, at least in part.

You were a stupid girl, and all you had you wasted.

And I’m not talking about Heather.

PS. Heather and Tommy were engaged over the weekend, and I’m genuinely happy for her. Go find your happiness you wild soul.
